Using Cellaronomy

How to connect Cellaronomy to Claude and run your wine collection by talking to it.

What Cellaronomy is

Cellaronomy is a wine cellar and tasting-history application designed to be operated by an AI assistant. You connect it to Claude, then add bottles, log what you've drunk, find what's where, and ask what to open, all in conversation.

Claude is the assistant it's built for. It also works with Grok, and it may work with other assistants that support the same open standard (MCP). Cellaronomy runs no AI of its own: the assistant you connect does the reading and reasoning, and Cellaronomy stores and returns your data.

A companion web app at app.cellaronomy.com handles what's easier on a screen: reviewing changes, exporting your data, and account settings.

Who it's for

Adults 21 and older in the United States.

If you keep a cellar, Cellaronomy tracks what you own, where it's stored, and what's ready to drink. If you don't, it works as a tasting journal: log a bottle or a glass you tried, rate it, and your assistant uses that history to help you choose what to try next.

Create an account

Go to app.cellaronomy.com and sign in with Google, Amazon, or an emailed magic link, so there's no new password to remember. You'll be asked to accept the Terms of Service and to confirm that you're at least 21.

Connect Cellaronomy to Claude

The connector URL is:

https://app.cellaronomy.com/mcp

Add to Claude

That button opens Claude's Add custom connector window with the name and URL already filled in. You review them and confirm before anything is added. If you'd rather do it by hand:

  1. In Claude, open Settings and find Connectors. If you don't see it, try typing "connectors" into the settings search box.
  2. Choose Add custom connector.
  3. Paste in the URL above and click Add.
  4. Click Connect. Claude signs you into Cellaronomy, and on the next screen you choose Read-only or Read + write access.

In the web app, the menu's Connect your AI page has an AI Connections card with the same URL and steps. Claude's settings change from time to time, so exact wording may differ.

Using Grok or another assistant that supports MCP? Look for Plugins or custom connectors in its settings and paste in the same URL.

Connecting uses the AI account you already have. Your AI provider's own plan, limits, and terms apply on that side.

Read-only or read + write

You choose the permission level when you connect, and the choice is made per connection.

Read-only lets your assistant look things up: search your bottles, check locations, review what you've drunk, and suggest what to open.

Read + write also lets it make changes: add bottles, log what you've drunk, move bottles, add notes, correct details, and reorganize your locations, shelves, boxes, and bins.

If you only want your assistant to look things up, choose Read-only. Managing AI connections and inviting or removing people on your account are always done in the web app, never through an assistant.

What you can ask

Just talk to it. Many answers come back as an interactive screen inside Claude; you can always ask in plain language too.

Find

"Where's the 2019 Barolo?" "What reds are in their drinking window?" "What's in the Basement Cooler?" You can also ask for an overview of your whole collection and what it's worth where prices are known.

Add

Describe a bottle, such as "a 2019 Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet," and your assistant fills in details like region, grape, and drinking window. Or send a photo of one bottle, or a few at once: if the label is readable, your assistant reads it, and it asks for anything the photo doesn't show, like the vintage. What it can read is up to the assistant, and a clear, legible label works best. Bottles added by an assistant stay pending review (see below). Requires write access.

Log what you drank

"I had a glass of the Willamette Valley Pinot Noir at dinner tonight, maybe an 8." You can log a bottle or a single glass that was never in your cellar, such as one from a restaurant or a friend's table. It goes straight into your tasting history, and your assistant uses that history when you ask what to try next. You can also log a bottle from your cellar as drunk, gifted, or sold. Requires write access.

Move and organize

Move bottles between locations, shelves, boxes, and bins; create and rename them. Deleting a location, shelf, box, or bin first shows you a preview and needs a separate confirmation. Requires write access.

Import a collection

Hand your assistant a spreadsheet, a list, or a document (Excel, Word, CSV, a text file), tidy or not. It reads the contents, untangles odd columns and mixed formats, and can fill in details like region, grape, and drinking window before importing. Each import handles up to 500 rows at a time. Rows that can't be imported are skipped and listed with the reason. Use your existing location names exactly, or a new location is created. Imported rows go in as final, and imports are bulk operations, so they aren't covered by undo. Requires write access.

Save your preferences

Tell your assistant what you like and don't, such as "no bottles over $30 on a weeknight." It's saved to your account, used as context for suggestions, and you can list or remove preferences any time.

See what needs attention

Ask what's ready to drink, what's past its window, what's coming up, and which bottles are missing details.

Export

Ask your assistant for an export, or use the web app (see below).

Try it first

Ask your assistant to load the sample cellar (126 wines, 203 bottles, across three sample locations) to explore without entering your own. Ask it to remove the sample when you're done; only the sample is removed. Requires write access.

Review and undo

Changes made by an AI assistant are flagged for your review. The web app lists them in its "while you were away" banner, where you can accept or undo each one. A bottle added by an assistant stays pending review until you accept it.

Ordinary single-bottle changes can be undone for 7 days; after that they're accepted automatically. Two kinds of changes are not covered by undo: deleting a whole location, shelf, box, or bin (each needs its own confirmation), and bulk operations such as moving a whole shelf or box, or a bulk import.

Disconnect and revoke access

In the web app, open the menu, choose Connect your AI, and in the AI Connections card choose Revoke next to the connection. Each connection shows whether it is Read-only or Read + write.

Revoking stops future access. It doesn't undo changes already made, and it doesn't erase information your AI provider already received. Your collection stays in Cellaronomy.

Export your data

Choose Export in the web app's menu, or ask your assistant. Formats are CSV, Excel, ODS, PDF, and JSON. You can export what's on hand, or the full history including bottles you've consumed. JSON is the recommended format for a full backup.

Shared cellars

You can share a cellar with someone, such as a spouse or family member, from the web app. AI features are available only on a cellar you own, never on one shared with you. Inviting or removing people is done in the web app.
